The License is Just the Beginning

Many agency owners celebrate their PSARA License grant and then ask: what now? The license is the midpoint of your compliance journey. Post-grant compliance is where agencies differentiate themselves — professionally run agencies maintain registers, comply with labour laws, and never miss renewal deadlines.

Immediate Post-Grant Actions

  1. Display the License: The original PSARA License must be displayed at the principal place of business.
  2. Set Up Registers: Maintain registers for guards deployed, attendance, equipment, visitors, and incidents as required under the Act.
  3. Issue ID Cards: Every guard must carry a photo ID card issued by the agency with license number printed.
  4. Uniform Compliance: Ensure all deployed guards wear the approved uniform that does not resemble police or military.

Labour Compliance Obligations

Most enterprise clients will audit your labour compliance before awarding contracts:

  • EPF Registration: Mandatory when employee strength exceeds 20 (threshold may vary).
  • ESIC Registration: Mandatory when wages are below the threshold (currently ₹21,000/month) and employee count exceeds 10.
  • Minimum Wages: State-specific minimum wages for security guards must be paid. Wage receipts must be maintained.
  • Contract Labour Act: If you deploy 20+ guards at a single client site, Contract Labour (R&A) Act registration may apply.

Renewal Calendar

Mark the expiry date on your calendar and start the renewal process 90 days before. For states with 1-year validity (Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand), this is a recurring annual process. For 5-year states, you have a longer window but the renewal dossier preparation takes time.
